Personal Training at BodyRefinery begins with a complimentary consultation.  This time is used to determine goals (long and short term); initial comprehensive health evaluation; body fat, measurements and weight recording (this provides a base line to continue to measure results and goals met).  This also provides an opportunity to discuss our specific needs from you, such as, commitment to the program, nutritional requirements and your individual training program.  Our programs include a variety of training styles each incorporated in our workouts to provide you the best possible program design to help you reach your goals faster.  The combination of traditional (machines, dumbbells, cables, etc.) and non-traditional (defined below) provide you with the best combination in fitness training.

What might a typical training session include?

Kettlebell Training:

  • Burn fat (more than running or any other aerobics program)
  • Improve coordination and agility
  • Build strength
  • Improve body composition
  • Strengthen your heart
  • Safe and extremely effective

Functional Training: 

If you stay abreast of what’s happening in the fitness industry, you have probably heard this term.  FT includes but is not limited to Core Conditioning, Strength, Balance, Cardiovascular and Flexibility Training.  BodyRefinery is noted as bringing much mainstream attention to FT here in San Diego.  We have worked with many trainers in the area teaching them the importance and proper use of FT.  We are mainly known as a private training studio for clients but we also teach and train many trainers.


Core Conditioning: 

The body’s center of gravity begins with the midsection.  This incorporates the abdomen, low-back, hips and pelvis.  As all stability and strength stems from this area, we begin our focus here.  Your benefit from CC will be a healthy and strong back, perfected posture, flat stomach, strong abs and the base of the “six-pack”.  Some exercises used in CC are stability balls, balance discs, foam rollers and a variety of other non-traditional exercise “equipment”.

Strength Training: 

Your number one asset in building muscle mass and reducing body fat is ST.  By simply having more muscle mass on your body, you will naturally burn more fat and calories just sitting down.  That’s not enough?  You’re right.  ST will also increase coordination, metabolism and bone mass.  Yes, ST has been clinically proven to improve Osteoporosis.


Balance Training: 

As the body ages, there is a natural decrease in its ability towards balance and stability.  BodyRefinery incorporates specific BT exercises including but not limited to stability balls, balance discs and medicine balls (weighted multi-use balls).  BT naturally encourages your body to retrain itself and will provide significant results.

Cardiovascular Training: 

One of the most important keys to body fat reduction and overall health is CT!  Endurance, calorie expenditure, body-fat loss, heart health, extra energy, (and the list goes on), are all benefits of CT.  This can be accomplished through traditional methods:  treadmill, elliptical, bike, etc.  or can be done with more creative methods, (all of which can be found here at BodyRefinery).  What are they, you ask?  All of our clients will tell you, so stop on by and find out. . .

Flexibility Training: 

Flexibility naturally decreases with age unless a proactive approach is taken.This can be accomplished both through movement and stationary methods.  BodyRefinery trainers are highly skilled at offering the best methods possible to increase and maintain your flexibility.  FT improves muscle and joint flexibility, body movement and energy level.  Your overall fitness program and lifestyle improve with better flexibility.
